REVIEW
A very complex look at two 19th century lunatic asylums. The pressures of politics, finace and the difficulty of caring for the chronically ill psychiatric patients is presented. Ellen Dwyer opens a door to the past, to the very beginnings of state run asylums in NY. The history mental health care, and the grand hopes for cures is fascinating. It is an amazing chronolgy of the early years of mental health care at Willard and Utica Asylums.
